Google has announced that its music service YouTube Music, is coming to smart speakers supported by Google Assistant. If your smart speaker is supported by Google Assistant, and you don’t mind seeing some ads while listening to YouTube Music, then you are one of those to benefit from this announcement. In addition, the company said its streaming service will also be available in its Pixel Buds earbuds and products from third-party manufacturers including Bose, Polk and Sonos.

Customers in the US, Mexico, Canada, the UK, France, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Australia, Netherland, Austria, and Japan will from Thursday have access to ad-supported YouTube Music on their Google Home smart speakers.

To activate the free but ad-supported YouTube Music on your smart speaker, simply go to the Account Settings screen in the Google Home app and tap Services and Music. Select YouTube Music as your default service. If you are setting up a new Google Home speaker, you will have to choose YouTube Music as your default service during the setup.

YouTube Music is dedicated solely for music—including songs, albums, playlists and artist radio. The service offers catalog of remixes, live performances, covers and music videos. YouTube Music streaming service offers free with ads, $9.99 per month without, or $11.99 per month for YouTube Premium. However, Google Play Music subscription members will get YouTube Music as part of that membership.

Unlike the ad-supported version of the service, YouTube Music Premium is a paid membership that offers you background listening, downloads and an ad-free experience for $11.99 a month for all new members.

YouTube Music offers:

  • Remixes, covers, live versions as well as deep cuts—from the biggest artists in the world to freshest voices breaking through.
  • New and iconic videos from “God’s Plan” and “Havana” to “Thriller,” “Sledgehammer,” and more.
  • You will be able to find music even if you don’t know the name of the artist—all you need to do is to describe the song.
  • Personalized home screen that dynamically adapts to provide recommendations based on your listening history, where you are and what you are doing.
