When we were starting to wonder if Samsung is going to make us wait more for the shrunken version of their flagship, it finally happened. Today, the Korean manufacturer introduced the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini and made a lot of fans, who were looking for a compact smartphone, but with more than decent specs, happy.

Even though we had an idea about the specs and the features of this phone, as a couple of leaked pictures were enough to reveal them, Samsung still succeeded to surprise us a bit. But before getting there, let’s make a quick round up of the S5 Mini’s general characteristics.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini launched

In terms of design, there’s nothing much we can say about this phone, as it resembles the Galaxy S5 in almost every aspect. And by every aspect, we also mean the band-aid looking back cover. The perks of being a mini. Not! Speaking about the back of the phone, the heart rate monitor is also there, while the under the home key, Samsung has also kept the fingerprint scanner. Also, the IP67 certification, making it dust and water proof (30 minutes and up to 1 meter) was also kept.

Ok, so what actually differentiates it from its bigger brother? The screen size, of course. The 4.5″ display is rocking a 720 x 1280 pixels resolution, which is definitely a step forward if we think at S4 Mini’s 540 x 960. It’s true, it’s not Galaxy S5’s full HD resolutin, but it’s still good for this size.

The phone is powered by a quad-core CPU, clocked at 1.4 GHz, 1.5 GB of RAM and it features 16 GB of internal storage. The operating system is Android 4.4.2 KitKat, customized with Samsung’s TouchWiz, which we all know it requires a bit of that internal storage, but don’t worry, there’s also a microSD card slot, allowing you to expand it with up yo 64 more gigabytes.

On the dotted back we can find an 8 MP camera, with aufocus and LED flash, while the 2 MP front snapper is able to shoot 1080p videos at 30 fps. Last but not least, a 2100 mAh battery keeps the whole thing alive.

The Galaxy S5 Mini is going to be available in 4 different colors: Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue and Copper Gold, the color which started the whole band-aid look craze.

No details about the availability of the phone were given, but according to some inside rumors, the international rollout will begin in Rusia, this month, where the phone will be sold for about $650, SIM free. Still, this is the recommended retails price, and it is known that the phone ends up being sold for a bit less than this.

Any opinions about Samsung’s latest addition to their portfolio? Would you buy a Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini?
