Viber for Android Now Comes With Doodle

Viber announced and released earlier today an updated version of its Android mobile application. Among other new functionalities, it comes with a doodling feature to allow users to paint or draw on a blank page or on top of existing photos and send these images to other Viber users.

Doodling on photos is not exclusive to Viber, as it has become a hot trend these past few weeks. Popularized by photo-messaging app Snapchat, doodling allows users to draw on selfies and send these custom images as self-destructing photo messages. A relatively newer app called Rithm focuses on music messaging for doodling.

On top of the Doodle update, the new version of Viber for Android comes with several minor upgrades, such as a timestamp to indicate when messages have been seen by the recipient. Another new feature is a set of new emoticons, along with better compatibility and integration for Viber Desktop on Windows and Mac computers.

In addition, Viber for Android now has 16 new languages: Croatian, Czech, Danish, Finnish, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Malay, Norwegian, Polish, Romanian, Slovak, Thai, Tagalog and Ukrainian.

Viber CEO Talmon Marco said the company is working persistently to better and add more functionalities to users. He said the mobile app gives users several options to communicate for free, and the new doodle feature, apart from the fun experience of custom images, will make Viber more significant as communications software.

Viber users on other platforms do not need to fret. When it comes to offering doodling on iOS devices, the company said Doodle will come in the form of an update to the iPhone and iPad in the coming weeks.

Viber currently supports a multitude of smartphones, with high-definition calls on Android, iOS, Blackberry, Windows Phone, Symbian, Nokia S40 and Bada devices through Wi-Fi or 3G/4G connections, and Windows and Mac computers.

Viber uses the unique phone number of the user as an ID. It synchronizes with the native Android phonebook and detects the contacts who also use Viber.
