Six years ago, the company is also the first one to introduce the 4G LTE. With 5G on its way, Verizon vowed to be the first to provide fifth-generation wireless technology. The latest technology should be launched after 2020. But it seems like the company is speeding up the expected launch of innovation. They work closely with vital partners to help them launch it next year.

A Distant Future No More

For Verizon, 5G technology is no longer a thing that could happen in the distant future. They feel the urgency to push it forward and work with industry leaders to finally give their consumers a new generation of wireless technology.

There are plenty of benefits of using 5G. It is said to be 50 times faster than the current 4G LTE. The upcoming technology will have latency in single milliseconds and can handle more Internet-connected devices. This is to accommodate the explosion of the Internet of Everything.

This effort of Verizon will put the US to be globally competitive. So far, the development for 5G networks is coming from Asian operators. Seeing a US company to accelerate this innovation is exciting.

The 4G

When 4G LTE was introduced, the possibilities of this technology were as great as they were imagined by the developers, engineers and businessmen, who started to put their ideas into the drawing board and take them into action.

Thus, the Verizon Innovation program began. It also opened the Innovations Centers in Waltham and San Francisco to encourage the growth of the 4G ecosystem. Innovators from various countries worked with the company to test their ideas and get them to market.

The market of 4G did grow. The first data call using LTE was made in 2009 and the company commercially launched it in 2010 covering 39 major cities and more than 60 airports.

These days, there are more than 98% of the US population accessing 4G network and 87% of the wireless data traffic is carried over the 4G network.

Leaving 4G

Even though the company is speeding up its test on 5G so they can launch it next year, the 4G technology continues to grow. They will continue to work and collaborate with their partners in launching new product and services that can use 4G network.

Verizon is currently working with Ericsson, Cisco, Nokia, Samsung and Qualcomm to ensure that their products can take full advantage of the faster speed of this upcoming technology.

Since this latest technology is still on its testing phase, the speed and reliability is still in question. However, if it will turn out to be real, it will surely supercharge the current tech trends. The idea of making your fridge or bed talk to each other might be a reality soon.

Verizon’s representatives will talk about its upcoming plans on 5G on the CTIA Wireless trade show that will start on Wednesday in Las Vegas.
