In its continued bid to keep its more than 300 million users engaged on its platform, Twitter on Thursday unveiled Highlight, which is a new tool that pushes some of the day’s best tweets directly to your phone.

Twitter’s new tool is an opt-in feature that lets you get a summary of the day’s best tweets via push notifications twice a day. When opened, you will be taken straight to the Twitter app where you will see the content in a special interface. However, the new tool is only available on Android, with no update on when Highlights will be extended to iOS users.

“Highlights, a fast and simple summary of Twitter, lets you catch up quickly on the best stuff that is most relevant to you. To create your Highlights, we look at things like the accounts and conversations that are popular among people you follow, tweets from people you’re closely tied to, topics and events that are trending in your area or within your network, and people that are popular or trending among people you follow,” a statement on the company’s blog said.

Twitter’s Gordon Luk said the daily summary, which requires opting in by a user, will collected from popular accounts and conversations from people that are followed, along with trending topics and events. The new tool has also been designed to gather tweets from those it believes you have close ties with, and of course, from accounts your friends might follow.

Twitter’s objective is to help you save time that would have spent on browsing through everything on your timeline. I personally find this very interesting considering the fact how much time it takes to find those tweets that might interest me. Not every user has the time to search through those tweets they consider important, and Highlights might just be the solution to that.

How to turn the feature on

Highlights can be turned on by going to settings where you can select your account handle in the mobile notifications menu, and checking the Highlights box.

Twitter’s efforts over the last couple of months have been geared towards providing its users an improved platform where they can interact and engage in very productive conversation. By adding a lot of useful features and tools, the company believes that its user-base will continue to grow, and more users will find its platform very interactive and entertaining.

“With this latest improvement, we’re delivering the best of Twitter to you, so it’s easier to catch up with your world,” the company added.
