TikTok users in more regions can now purchase in-stream concert tickets

TikTok and Ticketmaster have announced the expansion of the purchase of in-stream concert tickets to more regions. A partnership between TikTok and Ticketmaster was reached in August 2022, allowing artists to sell their event tickets through the TikTok app. Through the integration, artists can simply connect with more fans through the TikTok app. “TikTok and Ticketmaster are expanding their first-of-its-kind ticketing partnership into more than 20 new markets, including the United Kingdom, following the successful beta launch of the partnership in the US in 2022.” Aside from the US, where the partnership was first launched, users in the following countries will be able to purchase in-stream tickets These countries include the UK, Ireland, Australia, Germany, France, Canada, Mexico, Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, Spain, and Sweden. As per TickTok, the collaboration has proven to be fruitful, as numerous prominent and obscure musicians have leveraged the integration to advertise their forthcoming performances to their growing TikTok fan base. Since its US launch more than two years ago, the company claims to have enabled more than 2.5 billion views of videos through the Ticketmaster integration. In related news, TikTok is reportedly experimenting with what looks like its latest push into e-commerce. According to Bloomberg, some users in the US are now beginning to see a new Shop tab appear in the app. The “Following” feeds are positioned between the new Shop tab, according to Bloomberg, giving it a prominent position within the app. A scrollable list of seemingly random products, primarily from China, is shown on the new tab. TikTok is hopeful that its new e-commerce push into US markets will have a similar effect, having been encouraged by the success of a similar push in Taiwan. TikTok is also testing a new Shop Feed feature in the UK as it continues to experiment with new ways to integrate shopping into the app. The new test involves a new ‘Shop’ tab, which is swipeable from the main screen and is appearing for some users. TikTok gets a reprieve as judge blocks Montana from implementing ban

TikTok has been granted a reprieve as a Montana judge has stopped the state’s ban from going into effect. Governor Greg Gianforte of Montana signed legislation prohibiting TikTok from operating in the state a few months ago. The legislation was signed in an effort to shield Montanans from suspected Chinese intelligence gatherings. The law was signed even though there is not any solid proof that TikTok was involved in any such activity. A group of TikTok users objected to the legislation, claiming that it violated their First Amendment rights. This led to a court challenge and, ultimately, District Court Judge Donald Molloy’s ruling to halt Montana’s attempt to enact a ban. While delivering the judgment, the judge said the Montana legislation violates the constitution and “oversteps state power.” Reacting to the judgment, TikTok said: “We are pleased the judge rejected this unconstitutional law, and hundreds of thousands of Montanans can continue to express themselves, earn a living, and find community on TikTok.” Reacting, the Montana attorney general said that the state is considering the next steps to actualize its proposed ban, which should have come into effect next January. Things did not look good for TikTok in 2022, as several states took drastic steps to limit the use of the app over security reasons. As of December 2022, close to 19 US states had either partially blocked access to TikTok or permanently done so. Some members of Congress proposed a nationwide ban, joining India, a country that announced a ban on TikTok and tons of other Chinese apps. Responding to the ban, TikTok reiterated in a statement that the company was “disappointed that so many states are jumping on the political bandwagon to enact policies based on unfounded falsehoods about TikTok that will do nothing to advance the national security of the United States.” On several occasions, TikTok has had to defend itself against allegations of gaining access to classified information, a situation the US government finds worrying. The fact that TikTok is a Chinese-owned company does not sit comfortably with the US government, and the South Dakota ban has not come as a surprise to many.
