Amidst all the uproar after US President Barack Obama announced US operatives have killed al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, a lot of attention have been given to the US Navy’s SEAL Team Six, the group reported to have carried out the dangerous mission.

The publication reported that the German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois of the Team were equipped with titanium teeth. It quickly went viral on Thursday.

“Their razor-sharp teeth are made from titanium, their body armor can withstand clouds of hot shrapnel, and they’ve been trained to wear oxygen masks for high-altitude jumps into enemy territory,” the article began.

According to The Daily, each canine teeth made of titanium cost the US government a cool $2,000.

However, a report from Wired.com’s Danger Room countered The Daily’s article quoting Jeff Franklin of Cobra Canine, a firm specializing in training dogs for military and police deployments.

“It would not be possible for them to use titanium teeth to make them even more aggressive…They’re not as stable as a regular tooth would be, and they’re much more likely to come out” during a biting,” Franklin told Danger Room.

He said that the only reason dogs would be fitted with titanium grilles – which are, by the way, popular bling among rappers – would be for medical reasons. Franklin said that for a dog to break a tooth would be like a person breaking a crown.

Titanium teeth or not, each dog is reportedly trained to be as elite as their human counterparts, The Daily says.
