Facebook treats it as severity 1.

Pro-Palestinian activists are accusing Facebook of censoring their accounts and posts. As a result, they came up with an organized campaign by giving the lowest ratings on the Facebook app.

The campaign asks people to leave Facebook app a one-star review in the Play Store and App Store. This campaign is now being disseminated on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media sites.

Facebook’s Star Rating is Down

From 4 to 5 stars, Facebook’s app is now down to 2.3 on App Store and 2.4 on the Play Store. It has gotten thousands of one-star reviews in the last week. Thus, the strategy seems to be working.

Some reviews include comments about Facebook’s alleged silencing of the voices of Palestinians. They also accused Facebook of censoring hashtags, like #FreePalestinie and #GazaUnderAttack.

Facebook is treating the campaign very seriously. In fact, it categorized it as severity 1 or SEV1. Facebook uses this code to describe a major issue with the website. Severity 1 is the second-highest priority after SEV0, which is used internally each time the site is down.

With the recent war between Israel and Palestinian, user trust is dropping significantly. Facebook’s users are disconcerted about how they handle the situation. They think that they are being cut and silenced.

The said social media app contacted App Store and Play Store to remove the negative reviews. But Apple refused.

Censoring Palestinian Voices

Facebook isn’t the only social media site that has been accused of silencing the voices of Palestinians who simply want to be heard. Their posts pro-Palestinian posts and accounts have been deleted.

Instagram, for instance, restricted the hashtags that refer to the Al-Aqsa mosque. Twitter, on the other hand, restricted the account of Mariam Barghouti, an American-Palestinian writer.

Facebook stated that it has policies to provide every user a voice without harming the safety of other users. This social media company said that it implements its policies equally.

It has a dedicated team to monitor the situation on the ground. The team focuses on ensuring that it removes harmful content only and addresses errors as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately, Google and Apple didn’t comment on this matter yet.

Pro-Palestinian Activists Numbers in the US are Growing

Many supporters of Palestinians are criticizing Israel’s actions against Palestinians in Gaza. They condemn the Israeli government’s plan to remove them in East Jerusalem.

Thousands of Americans are protesting in various cities across the US. Videos and images of the destruction in Gaza were shared on social media by activists. Many of these activists have a greater audience than the BLM’s.

Militants in Israel and Gaza agreed to a cessation of hostilities. But tensions arose on Friday as forces of Israel used tear gas and stun grenades against Palestinians at the al-Aqsa Mosque. Several Israeli officers hit journalists using batons. They also pointed rifles at them.

Because of these, it wouldn’t be a surprise if we see more campaigns like trashing app ratings appear in the future.
