If you are a foodie then probably Pinterest is among your favorite websites and apps. Even the team of Pinterest knows it. Food related pins is one of the top categories with over 15 billion ideas. So, Pinterest decided to make things easier for users who are searching for food ideas and recipes.
According to a blog post on Pinterest you can now discover what’s on your plate by using their visual discovery technology called, Lens. With Lens you can get new ideas and inspirations by things that surround you. You point Lens at an object, then tap to discover related ideas. Lens can recognize more than 750 categories, and users have already started capturing food ideas in order to find new recipes to try. If for example you want to recreate your favorite waffles you can use Lens and find out ideas.

The Lens technology was first unveiled last summer. With Lens smartphone users can take a photo or even use an existing image on their camera roll to discover for similar themes and pins. You example you see an very nice vase in a shop, you take a photo and let Lens search for similar items. In March Lens was introduced in the United States, after the beta period.
With Pinterest’s latest update you can find the perfect recipe for you by adding filter. Now, you can search a recipe by time, diet and the ingredients you have on hand.
And once you chose a recipe you can see its star rating from websites epicurious, Martha Stewart, and Food Network.
Now, the Lens feature sounds really cool but a bit familiar. And a report from The Verge proves it! If you are a fan of HBO’s Silicon Valley then you might have an idea about what this is about. In the show they develop an app which is called SeeFood, it’s like a “Shazam for food”, according to a character from the show. Of course Pinterest didn’t make any comments about the fake app and a Pinterest representative confirmed to The Verge that the Silicon Valley episode was “separate and completely coincidental.” But, it was a very interesting coincidence nevertheless!
