Netflix wants to offer its subscribers more interactive entertainment.

Gaming subscription is the next big thing in tech. Several tech companies, like Apple, Google, and Nvidia, are offering it.

In a recent report, it seems that the video streaming service, Netflix, wants to try its hat in this department. According to Reuters, Netflix is looking for an executive officer who could manage its expansion into video games.

It is an indication that Netflix wants to grow beyond its video streaming business as competition heightens.

Pandemic’s Effect in the Video Gaming

During the pandemic, one of the industries that benefited from it is the video gaming industry. Thanks to the many gamers who are still staying at home.

In the past, the company has already experimented with interactive entertainment. For instance, “You vs Wild” lets viewers choose how the characters move.

Netflix is not a stranger to creating games. In fact, it has created some games based on its original shows, like “Stranger Things.”

Bundle of Games

The video game subscription that Netflix might offer will be similar to Apple Arcade. Unfortunately, the details about this strategy are still vague. But it is said that the games won’t feature ads.

Although it may be similar to Apple Arcade, Netflix might offer a smaller set of curated content.

The company may also provide downloadable games and the current plans will be mobile-first. Offering downloadable games may seem the opposite of what Netflix is all about.

Before it offered streaming services, people had to rent or download movies to watch them. But through creating its streaming platform, people could easily choose a title and watch it anywhere at any time.

However, Netflix may also offer streaming games like Stadia

In February, Google announced that it would shut down its internal game dev studios. It wants to focus on expanding the technology, instead of creating original content.

Stadia is still alive and it will stick around. However, consumers won’t see original titles anymore. It canceled games that were bound for release in 2021.

Cloud gaming can be a major part of the gaming industry in the years to come.

But Stadia emphasized that creating original titles is harder to achieve. It is also difficult for Google to compete against Nvidia GeForce and other streaming services.

And it is probably one reason Netflix may focus on third-party titles. But it may still create or buy its own studio.

This upcoming service may be available in 2022.

But these details have not been confirmed by Netflix. And even if these rumors are true, it’s still too early to say that the information is definite.

The details are still subject to change.

Meanwhile, Netflix will continue to produce several original series this year. It will also continue to offer series that are based on video game franchises, such as the Witcher.

Netflix has seen the value of video games.

The video gaming industry may continue to see an impressive jump in revenue, despite loosening stay-at-home restrictions.

More and more people would prefer to work from home, instead of commuting. And because these people will have more time at home, they get bored. To ease the boredom, they would want to play games.
