Microsoft announced their next steps regarding the merge of the real world with the virtual one. So the next project by Microsoft is called Windows Mixed Reality, but you may know it as Windows Holographic. But what is new about this mixed reality project?
Firstly let’s see what Microsoft have to say about Windows Mixed Reality according to the website:
“Mixed reality blends real-world and virtual content into hybrid environments where physical and digital objects coexist and interact. Create mixed reality experiences targeting a broad range of Windows 10 devices—from the untethered, self-contained HoloLens to fully immersive PC experiences using the upcoming Windows Mixed Reality headsets. Release your users from flat screens.”
Also the company made a comment to MSPoweruser:
“Microsoft renamed “Windows Holographic” to “Windows Mixed Reality” to be more encompassing of the company’s broader vision for the platform. We’re unifying the mixed reality ecosystem around a platform that enables shared experiences and interoperability between headsets. By opening up the Windows Mixed Reality platform to the industry at large, we anticipate the growth of holographic apps will make for stronger experiences and better devices for everyone.”
Also Microsoft announce that the first Windows Mixed Reality developer kits will be shipped this month. And they worked with Acer to make the kits a reality. The company’s other collaborators – Dell, Asus, HP, Lenovo – will introduce their own headset for Mixed Reality later this year.
As for the hardware itself MSPoweruser reports that the Acer headset has two high-resolution liquid crystal displays at 1440 x 1440. The refresh rate of the display is up to 90 Hz and it has a built-in audio out and microphone support through 3.5mm jack. In addition it comes with a single cable with HDMI 2.0 and USB 3.0.
If you are wondering about the developer’s kit price Microsoft didn’t reveal it. But, if you are interested you can visit the official website and sign-up for more information. But if we take under consideration that these Windows Mixed Reality headsets are not too expensive then the developer kit might also be affordable.
Last but not least the Windows Mixed Reality headsets will be functional for the Xbox Box One devices and they will allow users to have a mixed reality experience. Also, Microsoft will bring mixed reality to Project Scorpio in 2018.
