Instagram launches new affiliate feature for creators

Creators on Instagram now has a new way to improve their revenue earnings. Instagram announced during the week that creators will be able to earn some money from their followers, while also earning a portion of revenue from ads that run against their video content.

Today, select creators can tag products from the brands they work with or use Shops if they have their own product line. We want to give more creators access to our shopping tools and allow them to get rewarded for the purchases they drive.”

Instagram said it will start testing a native affiliate tool from next month. The tool according to Instagram, will allow creators to discover new products available on checkout, share them with their followers and earn commissions for the purchases they drive—and all this within the Instagram app.

When people come across your affiliate post that features a tagged product, they will see “eligible for commission” at the top of the post. This is added to encourage people to buy the product in order to help support your effort.

For brands and creators, the new affiliate and shopping features are a big boost. It is now easier for people to shop directly from the creators they love, while also giving brands a new way to partner with and reward creators who share their products.

Instagram said the new affiliate feature will test with a handful of US-based creators and businesses including Benefit, Kopari, MAC, Pat McGrath Labs and Sephora, and will expand to more partners in the future.

Instagram is currently testing a new feature that will allow you to search in shops for products similar to those visible in a post. Instagram wants to be the platform where people can buy and sell, and the visual search feature could enhance this vision.

Visual search is not entirely new online, Pinterest and some other platforms have similar feature. It is one of the most effective ways to shop online as it makes shopping very easy for users. if all goes to plan, Instagram could officially roll out the feature in no-distant future, though no official confirmation has been made as at the time of writing this.

In December, Instagram added a shopping feature to Reels; the TikTok clone. Shopping is already visible in virtually everywhere you turn to within the app. Places like Feed, Stories, IGTV, Live, and now Reels all present you with an opportunity to shop. Going forward, viewers can tap through tags to buy or save them. Of course, those tags would first have to be created by businesses and creators, and have them tagged to products when Reels are created.
