Social media marketing is volatile, even though it’s highly rewarding. If you post an excellent update and it’s published timely, it could definitely go viral giving you thousands of visits to your website.

How to Kill Social Media Marketing Campaign?

How to Kill Social Media Marketing Campaign?

Then again, if you post a terrible one, it could instantly kill your social media marketing campaign. So, what are the things that you should avoid that might kill your campaign?

Here’s our list.

Using a Trend Inappropriately

Trending topics are can give you lucrative opportunities to market your brands, products and services on social media.

And if you use the right hashtag, you can easily put your company in the spotlight.

However, if you use it inappropriately, it can surely destroy the reputation of your brand. The reason for this is that it only shows that you don’t know what your brand is.

Furthermore, it could also offend other people.

Some hashtags are used to raise awareness of a topic. And if you use the hashtag that raises awareness about, say, domestic violence, it’d surely kill your social media marketing campaign.

Before using a trending hashtag, click on it first and get to know it first before you use it on your own campaign.

Publishing Offensive Material

This one is easy. You would need to find an offensive material that’d destroy your brand.

Publishing of offensive materials may happen for two reasons. One is that it was mistakenly published. We’ve been there. Yes, clicking the publish button inadvertently.

Another reason could be that you don’t know that it’s offensive.

For example, you may not have the time to check on the link you just copied from somewhere and then post it.

The link might contain a pornographic material that could destroy your brand’s integrity. Even if you’d apologize for your honest mistake, the damage has been made.

You could publish an offensive material without realizing it if you don’t proofread your update.

If you don’t want to kill your social media marketing campaign, always check what you post before it goes out live.

Paying for Likes or Followers

We all want to have thousands or millions of followers.

We want to have the same number of followers or fans as Leonardo diCaprio on Instagram or Serena Williams on Facebook or Twitter.

But we’re not celebrities. Thus, some of us love the shortcuts of getting more followers/fans in a short period of time.

Sure, you can opt to advertise on Facebook and pay a huge cost. Some shortcuts promise you to gain a number of followers within, say, 24 hours.

But, this should be a warning. If you want to kill your social media marketing campaign, do it.

However, if you want to save it, you shouldn’t do it as you’d only gain fake/spam accounts that wouldn’t offer value the total number.

There are sellers on Fiverr who do this thing.

I once used one of them for our site’s (Vimchi.info) Facebook Page.

Our page did get additional 2,000 fans within 24 hours. But, after paying, those 2,000 fans gradually reduced each day.

Apart from that, these fans that we gained didn’t generate real engagement, thus, hurting our chances of showing up organically in social media.

Final Thoughts

Killing your social media marketing campaign is very easy as long as you follow these mistakes.
