A small but very useful new feature is coming to Google Maps—the app will soon start telling you when to get off a train or bus during your journeys. The notifications will be interactive and will keep you up to date when out on a journey.

While on a transit journey, Google Maps’ new update will appear in the app and on the lock screen of your Android device. The new addition can be found when you do the usual search for your transit directions in the app. According to TechCrunch, you will soon be able to tap a “start” button at the bottom of the screen with the details about your transit journey. This will enable you to get live updates as you ride in your local trains on buses.

The most interesting part of this update is that Google Maps will alert you when you are getting close to your bus stop. Just the perfect feature for a traveler that knows little or nothing about his destination. A perfect tool for individuals who sometimes sleep off during a long journey.

The update is an indication that Google Maps is becoming interactive, especially with the addition of a lock screen notification.

The new update, according to TechCrunch, will soon be released and is already being tested by Google.

Last March, Google quietly updated its Maps app with a new feature that helps you remember where you parked. With that update, you can now park your car, open Google Maps, and tap on the blue location dot. Google will then present you with a new menu offering “save your parking” that lets you store all the info you need to find your car.

The interface will not only save your current location; it will also add a big “P” icon on the map. The dot location can be adjusted to include, photos and notes to your parking lot. Google also added a “Time Left” field if there is a parking space; this will let you set “time left” that will count down the time remaining.

Once relevant info has been provided, you will get a notification from Google Maps, reminding you that you have a saved parking location. The “P” notification will remain until you hit the “Clear” button or until you save a different parking spot.

Google Maps is one app loved by a lot of people. Millions of people find the app so useful they can barely plan their daily routine without it. You can’t really blame them because the app has so many useful features; and is even getting better these days as Google continue to add new features. Google started rolling out parking availability in January, and the feature keeps getting better.
