Facebook Tests Dislike Button On Messenger Chats

Facebook users have waited for this for a very long time. Now, the company is testing a dislike button. But it’s not where you want it to be. For now, it’s only for the Messenger.

The company confirmed it to TechCrunch that’s testing the Dislike button on Facebook Messenger. The button is part of the reactions that are similar to the ones you see on the newsfeed. However, Facebook sees it as a no button than a dislike button.

“We’re always testing ways to make Messenger more fun and engaging. This is a small test where we enable people to share an emoji that best represents their feelings on a message.” – Facebook

Not everyone can access the feature as the testing is a small project. But when the company makes it official, everyone may be able to access it. To use the dislike button, you simply have to hover over a message and select a reaction that you wish to convey.

The idea of the dislike button is to make it easier and more fun for friends to communicate their messages because they can easily get lost in a sea of messages while they’re in group chats. In this feature, you can see which person has reacted to a particular message.

A lot of the social networking site’s users requested a dislike button to express their true feelings about a post. This post can be negative or distasteful. It could also be a post that they disagree on.

Although Facebook did not oblige, it did give users several options to react on their newsfeed posts through emoticons that convey surprise, anger, sadness and other emotions. Since the launch of Reactions, Facebook users shared more than 300 billion reactions.

But the reactions on newsfeed did not have the dislike button. Facebook stated before that having this button might add negativity to the social networking site. It’s understandable considering the original purpose of the site is to help connect friends and meet new ones. People might also abuse the dislike button.

It’s not clear yet whether Facebook is going to include a dislike button on news feed posts after it’s done testing it on Messenger. However, this move shows that the company listens to its users.

Recently, it has added another useful feature to its site called Suicide Prevention tool. It can be utilized to assist people who are thinking of suicide. The company continues to improve its tools and enhance user experience.

The addition of dislike button on Facebook Messenger is a move that could help the company in moving up as its rivals, Snapchat and Line, are already offering the said feature.

Although the company confirmed the test, it’s not a guarantee that you’ll dislike button anytime soon or the reactions on your Messenger. Since it’s a small test, it’s not committing to anything that it would launch soon even if you would assume that it would go forward.

The more features Facebook can offer on its Messenger, the better it can compete with Snapchat and Line. By providing these reactions, it could somehow lock users in the ecosystem of Facebook.
