Foxconn, the Chinese device manufacturer which is the sole assembler of the iPhone, may soon produce LCD TVs in the US.
That is if a rumor first reported on by DigiTimes proves to be accurate.
According to DigiTimes, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd. is currently assessing the feasibility of putting up manufacturing plants in the US.
The Taiwanese publication says that “market watchers” have told them that Hon Hai, which owns Foxconn Technology Group that makes the iPhone, is looking at Detroit or Los Angeles as possible cities to put up their factory in.
However, no iPhone will be made in the US just yet as DigiTimes reports that “manufacturing of Apple’s products is rather complicated” so the Foxconn facilities are expected “to focus on LCD TV production, which can be highly automated and easier.”
