Bin Laden Compound Remade for Counter Strike: Source

The lair where Osama bin Laden was killed by U.S. elite forces in May 2 has apparently been recreated for the first-person shooter game Counter Strike: Source with the release of a map called “fy-abbottabad”.

The map, which name is an obvious nod to the city in Pakistan where bin Laden’s hideout was built, has been viewed more than 100,000 times and downloaded more than 8,000 times as of this report.

The fy_abbottabad map does not, however, feature the interiors of the building. An update expected to be released by “Fletch”, the creator of the map, later will evolve the map into a bomb or hostage map, reports say.

Answering criticism that the timing of the release of the fy_abottabad map was in bad taste,  Fletch said that: “What alot of people don’t seem to understand is that the only thing this map has in common with Osama is location. I can see how people would think it is in bad taste, but honestly if that’s your opinion you may as well protest the whole game (as well as many others).”

“Anyway, on to the real update. de-abbottabad is close to completion,” Fletch said of the update to the map in a post on where the map can be downloaded from.

“I find it alot more enjoyable than this (fy_) version. The idea is that the T’s (terrorists) have returned to destroy sensitive information before it can be located and taken away,” he said.
