Amazon on Thursday announced addition of new storage tiers for its Cloud Drive customers with a huge amount of files and photos. The additions means users can now have unlimited storage for their photos.
“Most people have a lifetime of birthdays, vacations, holidays, and everyday moments stored across numerous devices. And, they don’t know how many gigabytes of storage they need to back all of them up,” said Josh Petersen, Director of Amazon Cloud Drive. “With the two new plans we are introducing today, customers don’t need to worry about storage space—they now have an affordable, secure solution to store unlimited amounts of photos, videos, movies, music, and files in one convenient place,” said Amazon.
The service has now been expanded as a paid offering to cover other kinds of content, and to users outside of its loyalty program. With Amazon’s unlimited Cloud Storage, users will now get unlimited photo storage or “unlimited everything” — covering all kinds of media from videos and music through to PDF documents — respectively for $11.99 or $59.99 per year. Users who want to test drive, the company says they can do that for free for three months.
With Amazon’s announcement, the stage now seems set for a major competition between the company and other Cloud Storage giants like Dropbox, Google, Microsoft, and other companies offering similar services. Amazon is not the first to announce such an offer, but it has raced ahead of others by being the first to market unlimited storage to everyone interested.
The unlimited photo option is also available to both Prime members and Fire devices owners, but would have to pay for Unlimited Everything Plan for other kinds of media. The company is also offering those taking other tiers of Cloud Drive an opportunity to swap over.
Details of the new plans as announced by Amazon revealed that:
Unlimited Photos Plan (free 3-month trial, then $11.99 per year–equivalent of less than $1 per month): Store an infinite number of photos in Cloud Drivewithout worrying about taking up space on phones, cameras, or other devices. Customers can upload existing collections and store all future photos taken. This plan also includes 5 GB of additional storage for videos or other documents and files.
Unlimited Everything Plan (free 3-month trial, then $59.99 per year–equivalent of less than $5 per month): Store an infinite number of new and existing photos, videos, files, documents, movies, and music in Cloud Drive.
