As Facebook Graph Search is rolled out to more and more users, businesses are looking for ways to better position themselves with regards to this new technology.
What we have here today is an infographic that offers a 9-step cheat sheet for Facebook Graph Search optimization.
Step 1 is to choose the right category. As the infographic suggests, it is very important to choose the right category that matches what a business does. What an account manager does is to visit their profile, click “about”, click “edit”, select the most appropriate category and “save”.
Another tip is to include the right business address. Graph Search puts emphasis on geographic locations of businesses especially for people who are searching for establishments in a certain area.
“Be sure your address matches the exact way it appears on your company’s website,” the infographic says. Copy the exact address found on a business website to the Facebook Page for that business.
It is also important to fill out the entire profile, the infographic notes. This means that all fields in the “About” section should be filled as it makes it easier for users to understand what a business does and how it can help them. Fill out the “About”, “Mission”, “Description”, “Awards”, and “Products” fields.
An added point here is that filling all fields in the “About” section will also help Facebook better understand the business that Page belongs to.
Fourth on the list is to include important keywords. We here at Social Barrel have said this when we wrote our Pinterest for Business guide. It’s important to use the same keywords targeted by other Internet properties of a business as it ties up the various Internet presences a business has – from social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn and Pinterest to business websites and blogs.
This makes it easier for search engines to classify and rank a business and its web properties. Now that Graph Search is slowly being rolled out to all Facebook users, targeting keywords across properties including Facebook helps a business rank in searches.
In addition to using keywords for account information, the infographic also suggests using keywords for status updates, hashtags and other content to boost Graph Search visibility.
Nonetheless, an important reminder the infographic has which we here agree with is to not stuff keywords into the “About” section of the Page and in status updates. Much like Google, Facebook is assumed to also frown upon keyword stuffing.
“The primary goal is to communicate,” the infographic notes. Use keywords strategically and sparingly.
