Four hackers believed to be connected to the hacker activist group Anonymous have been released by Dutch authorities, a report from The Associated Press says.

Brande Jackson / Flickr (CC BY-NC-ND)According to the report, “national prosecutors” in the Netherlands have revealed that the hackers have been released by authorities.

The report further reveals that the four hackers have acknowledged that they have “infiltrated websites” and published “confidential information.”

The news report, which came out Friday, details that the group of hackers were arrested Tuesday last week.

Their arrests came after a joint operation of Dutch authorities and their counterparts in the U.K. and the U.S.

“The Dutch suspects are thought to belong to a splinter group called AntiSec NL,” the AP says. AntiSec, according to other reports in the tech industry, was formed when members of the now-disbanded Lulz Security hacker group (LulzSec) formed alliances with Anonymous hackers.

LulzSec was responsible for a string of cyber attacks in the past months before they announced that their journey had come to an end.

Anonymous, on the other hand, has been most famous for supporting whistleblower site WikiLeaks and its founder, Julian Assange.

The AP says that investigation of the four men is still “ongoing” but authorities are still unsure of charges to be filed against the suspected Anonymous hackers.
