Twitter’s Alternative Bluesky is Now on App Store — But Not Everyone Can Get It
Bluesky Originated within Twitter — an Invite-Only App TechCrunch reported that BlueSky is now on Apple App Store as an invite-only app. This is a project that Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, supported. The app resembles Twitter, especially the timeline and profile pages. The app only invited some users to try it out. It debuted on February 17 and has been downloaded 2,000 times. Because of its invite-only status, it indicates that the beta testers can try it at this time. The app is not on Top Charts in the US yet and it’s also not on Google Play. Authenticated Transfer Protocol This project is powered Authenticated Transfer Protocol. It’s an open-source social protocol. Overall, it is a “federated social network.” That is, there are networks within a single hub. The AT Protocol is based on account portability, performance, interoperability, and algorithmic. It allows you to transfer your account data to another provider and you have more control over what you see on a network. The app was made available for beta testing in October. But with the recent development, it appears that the company wants to test it a bit more. As to when it will be available...
Reddit now allows you to search comments within a post
Reddit is expanding its search capability to now include the ability to search comments within a specific post. You will now be able to search through the comments feed on any post. This will now make it easier to find specific discussions and mentions within Reddit. Previously, you could only search through all comments in the app within the search element. The update, however, means that you will be able to scan through post-specific comments directly on the post itself. “We’ve been listening to your feedback and you can now search comments within a post on desktop, iOS, and Android apps. So what does this mean? You don’t have to “cmd-f” on the post page anymore and you can search comment threads without expanding them. No more long scrolling sessions — quickly get to the parts of the conversation you’re looking for and jump in where you want,” Reddit announced. The new capability provides a new way for you to research specific discussion points and mentions within comment threads. This will come in handy when you are looking for a previous comment made by someone or for brands when you want to know more about a product. Meanwhile, Reddit...
TikTok nears its end in the US as ban looms
Credit: Search Engine Journal TikTok’s days in the US are numbered; and it seems it is only a matter of time before the hammer falls on the Chinese-owned app. The US House Foreign Affairs Committee has voted to hand President Joe Biden the power to ban TikTok. This of course, will only happen if the president deems such a move necessary. This has been coming, and the latest move by the US House Foreign Affairs Committee seems like the last straw. Over 30 US states have banned the use of the app on government-owned devices, and a federal ban [if it does happen] will end the use of TikTok in one of its biggest markets in the world. The US House according to Reuters, today voted “24 to 16 to approve the measure to grant the administration new powers to ban the ByteDance-owned app – which is used by over 100 million Americans – as well as other apps considered security risks.” “TikTok is a national security threat … It is time to act,” said Representative Michael McCaul, the Republican chair of the committee who sponsored the bill as per Reuters. “Anyone with TikTok downloaded on their device has...
Instagram age verification tools expand to more regions as a test
Instagram has extended its age verification tools to more countries as a test. The expansion to more countries including Mexico, Canada, South Korea, Australia, Japan, and more countries in Europe was announced on Thursday by Andy Stone Meta’s head of Communications in a tweet. This is part of Meta’s long-term plan to improve its process of clarifying and confirming user ages, and also limit their exposure while using the Instagram app. “Sarting today, we’re beginning to expand our Instagram age verification test to Mexico, Canada, South Korea, Australia, Japan, and more countries in Europe. This builds on an expansion to India and Brazil we announced in October, with more countries coming in the next few months.” And starting today, we’re beginning to expand our Instagram age verification test to Mexico, Canada, South Korea, Australia, Japan & more countries in Europe.Builds on an expansion to India and Brazil we announced in October.More countries coming in the the next few months! https://t.co/ULpFSfJx5t— Andy Stone (@andymstone) March 2, 2023 The tool was first announced sometime in June 2022, but its roll out was only limited to US users alone at the time.
