Job seekers have a new search platform that they can use to look and apply for a job. Facebook, the social media giant, has recently unveiled its job search feature. With it, companies can post job openings through its business Page on the platform.
For many years, a lot of people speculated that the social network giant would take advantage of its huge audience to compete with online job boards, like LinkedIn. True enough. The company created tools where job seekers can hunt for new gigs.
The latest tools are ideal for small and mid-sized businesses that struggle to find the right people that they can hire. The job openings are mostly for part-time and hourly jobs. The feature aims to resolve the weak spot of LinkedIn.
But the social networking giant has already provided a tool for prospective employees to place their job openings using their Facebook pages before. However, the new medium allows them to find the right employees in an easier way.
US and Canada businesses and companies can start posting job openings this week. They can also track applications and communicate with job seekers right through their pages on Facebook.
For job seekers, they can apply for an open position by clicking the Apply Now button. The platform can auto-fill some of their public information through their Facebook profile. These pieces of information would include name and location. But they can review and edit them before submitting their application.
Once the application has been submitted, it opens a way for the business and the job candidate to communicate through Facebook Messenger.
Job seekers will also get a “Jobs” tab on their profile.
Boosting Job Listings
For businesses that wish to expand their reach, they can pay for ads. Through this feature, their job listings will appear in News Feed of those Facebook users who liked the business’ page.
The social networking giant has already tested the new tools last spring in Chicago and other cities in the US.
We’ve tested the new jobs experience in parts of the US, and while it’s still early, businesses are already filling roles. “It was great because it was easy,” says Wendy Grahn, co-owner of the Chicago-based Lakeview Kitchen and Market. “It took three minutes to fill out the information and put it out there. Then someone saw the post, we talked, and it was done.”
Facebook is testing its platform into the recruiting space by using its growing users. More than 84 percent of businesses are looking for new employees on social media, and the rest of the companies are saying that they plan to do it as well.
Currently, the most popular social media site for recruiters is LinkedIn. However, a survey showed that Facebook is gaining momentum with 66 percent of recruiters using the platform. Some recruiters are also using Twitter to find new recruits.
But Facebook will face a significant challenge. That is, some of its users are hesitant to mix their personal and professional lives.
