Trust WhatsApp to always excite users with new and exciting features to stay ahead of the chasing pack. Beta version 2.17.291 is already promising to be one update to look forward to as the instant messaging app is rolling out a Facebook-like colored status.
According to Android Police, the new feature made popular by Facebook [WhatsApp’s parent company], is still being tested, and is not yet available to everyone. However, users that have signed on as beta testers can access the new feature.
Want to try this new test status feature? Click the Status tab and look for the floating pencil button on the bottom right. If you are a beta tester, but still can’t find the new feature on the app installed on your phone, simply clear out the app data. Do take note that clearing your app data might affect your installation.
The new colored status according to Android Police, features three icons that can be used to add emojis, selecting font, and changing the background color. When you are done typing your text, you can tap the green send button to update your status.
The feature is still being tested by the Facebook-owned app, and does not in any way indicate that it will be rolled out to a wider audience.
Last month, a screenshot of soon-to-be launched WhatsApp chat “Recall” feature emerged on Twitter. The screenshot has a “Cancel” and a “Recall” button that allow you to recall or cancel a sent message obviously within a specified period. It allows you to unsend a message recently sent by you.
According to Twitter user WABetaInfo, there will be some improvement on the “Recall alert” sometime in the future. This might simply imply that some minor fixes and changes still have to be made to the feature. If released, the feature could be the ultimate tool to save users a lot of pains from sending some embarrassing messages intended for someone else.
WABetaInfo is a trusted source for upcoming WhatsApp-related features; and is known for calling a lot of news right. No exact date has been set for the release of this update yet, but the source said the feature will be available on WhatsApp Web 0.2.5370.
The chat app is also testing a new feature—you will soon be able to watch YouTube clips within your WhatsApp chat app, The Independent reports. The new feature, which is still being tested by the company’s engineering team, will open and take over your entire screen.
The report adds that you can only do one thing at a time—the app forces you to watch video or see your messages. In other words, you won’t be able to do both [watch YouTube clips and read your chat messages] at the same time. What this means is that you have to keep switching between the two app just to keep using the new feature.
WhatsApp recently upgraded a feature that lets you send any type of file. This marked a significant shift from the way we have always used the chat app. Everyone will now be able to send video/audio, PDF, images, and Word documents in addition to images.
