Vizio has outpaced Samsung Electronics to top the LCD HDTV shipments ranking in the U.S. for the first quarter of this year.
The company has announced that it got an 18.5 percent market share with a growth of 3.5 percent over its performance during the fourth quarter of 2011.
For the first quarter of 2012, Vizio shipped 1.21 million LCD HDTV units, according to data from the IHS iSuppli Q2 2012 Shipment & Forecast Report for Q1 2012 LCD Shipments rankings.
Meanwhile, Samsung saw its market share fall to 17.6 percent as its market share deflated by 5.3 percent compared to its performance during the last quarter of last year. The South Korean consumer electronics giant shipped 1.16 million units during the first quarter of this year, according to data from IHS iSuppli.
LG Electronic comes in at third with a shipment of 657,000 units for a market share of 10 percent during the said quarter. The South Korean company experienced a decrease of 2 percent in market share compared to its Q4 2011 performance.
Fourth on the IHS iSuppli ranking is Sony which also saw its market share shrink at 1.1 percent for a market share of 6.6 percent for Q1 2012 shipping 434,000 LCD HDTV units.
Completing the top 5 is Sanyo which shipped 346,000 units during the first quarter for a market share of 5.3 percent, an increase of just 0.1 percentage points over its performance for the last quarter of 2011.
Toshiba is number six with a decrease in market share of 2.4 percent quarter-over-quarter as it shipped 341,000 LCD HDTV units for a market share of 5.2 percent for Q1 2012.
Sharp saw its market share climb 0.4 percent from its performance during Q4 2011 for a market share of 4.4 percent on shipments of 288,000 units.
Panasonic is in at number 8 with shipments of just 81,000 units for a market share of 1.2 percent. That’s 0.5 percent decrease in its market share during the previous quarter.
Hitachi is ninth with 67,000 units of LCD HDTVs shipped for 1 percent market share, a growth of 0.1 percentage points over its market share in the previous quarter. Meanwhile, 30.2 percent of the market (1.98 million units) was shared by other manufacturers.
