The news comes via the public security ministry which released the information in a statement which came out Thursday.

According to the Chinese agency, the network of child porn sites taken down in the joint U.S.-China operation included 48 sites.

Furthermore, the agency revealed that 18 of all the sites in the downed network contained graphic pornography images of children.

The operation is “the first successful joint law enforcement campaign by the two nations on online crimes,” the agency said.

The sites are reported to be targeting people in China.

“We will continue to strengthen joint judicial cooperation with other nations to tackle international cyber crimes such as online pornography, fraud, gambling and hacking,” the agency said.

According to the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, Wang Yong, born in China and currently a U.S. permanent citizen, has been arrested in connection to the child porn site network bust and will face a minimum of 15 years in jail if found guilty, a report from the Agence France-Presse reveals.
