Twitter users can now view who paid for ads in new transparency drive

Twitter has announced a new transparency drive that will allow users to view who paid for an ad. The tool which was launched a couple of days ago, will allow users to view all active campaigns an advertiser has run in the last seven days. This, they [users] would be able to use by searching for the advertiser’s Twitter handle.

To view ads from any advertiser you will be able to simply search for a specific handle and see the creative for all ad campaigns that have run within the last 7 days from that handle. If an ad is reported and taken down from Twitter, it will be tombstoned in the Ads Transparency Center within approximately 24 hours. If the account was suspended, Tweets will not be shown in the ATC. The same applies to deleted users and Tweets.

Everyone regardless of being a member of the microblogging platform will be able to access the Ads Transparency Center. What that means is that no login will be required, which makes very simple to view every ad within the Transparency center. Though, all advertisers will be included in the Transparency Center, only US federal election campaigns ads that fall under the new Twitter policy will be visible for now, the company said.

US political ads will be searchable for an indefinite period of time, with people having access to detailed information like demographic targeting data and amount spent on ads.

Last May, Twitter came up with a new label for all US election candidates. All Midterm candidates in the US will have new labels added to their profiles. The badges will appear below a candidate’s name on tweets in users’ timelines. All candidates running for state governor, the US Senate and the House of Representatives during this year’s midterm election will have the labels added to their accounts.

The labels will provide credible information about a political candidate, and will help people understand more facts about the candidate. The company will partner with Ballotpedia, a non-profit, civic organization that publishes nonpartisan information on federal, state, and local politics. Information provided by Ballotpedia will help identify all campaign accounts of candidates once they qualify for the general election ballot for an office.

A couple of days ago, Facebook took a giant step towards improving the way it relates with the public when it comes to ads on its platform by announcing an update to its Ads and Page policy.

The update underlines Facebook’s commitment to getting everyone involved in the kind of ads they see on their News Feed. In a blog post, the social media behemoth said users will now be allowed to see all ads that a page is currently running. Along with this update, users will be able to view a detailed history of any name changes that have been made by the company to the page.
