Twitter is, first and foremost, a social networking site. However, in 2010 we have seen more and more people doing things on Twitter that could only be accomplished by the phone, in person or by e-mail.
Businesses are using Twitter as, not just as a conference tool, but a tool to find an employee, as well as a tool to track that employee. Businesses are also using the medium for advertising. Twitter launched promoted tweets, promoted trends, analytics and suggested users this year, all aimed at getting information about a business out there for everyone to see. Promotions, which include coupons and discounts on social media, are very popular as well.
There are a great many ways that people are finding out how to use Twitter as a problem solver as well. Many have dumped their partner on the site, learned things, got first hand news, kept important memories, made a difference in the world, and even prayed at the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
