Facebook Messenger is a popular standalone messaging platform that boasts one billion monthly users. But the app is more than just a messaging platform.
The company continued to provide new functionalities and hinted that a lot more would come. The upcoming features will tackle AI and commerce.
Facebook is making Facebook Messenger an all-in-one communication platform. It’s, in fact, one of the handiest messaging apps on the market.
To make the most of it, here are some secrets and tricks of Facebook Messenger that you might not know of:
1. Create Snapchat-Like Profile Codes
One of Snapchat’s best features is that it allows people to share links to their friends through a personalized system. Users can scan them with their phones.
Because of this useful feature, Facebook got into the pictogram game. The Facebook Messenger Codes feature is designed to eliminate the “who are you” moment of chatting with someone you don’t know of.
You can share your Facebook Messenger code by tapping your profile photo. Find the personalized code and tap it.
Two tabs will pop-up. The My Code tab presents code so you can easily scan it and the Scan Code tab that lets you scan other users’ codes.
2. Get a bigger emoji
A simple emoji may not be enough. If you need to supersize it, you can.
How? Simply hold the emoji down, and it will grow. Now, when it gets to a certain height, let it go and send the larger version of that emoji to your friend.
But don’t hold it too long as it’ll shake and deflate and go back to its normal size.
3. Communicate with a Bot
Facebook has joined the “chatbotosphere.” Several new organizations developed bots to deliver news links to any Messenger conversations.
The news links will depend on your interests and queries. What’s more interesting about bots is that you can place an order for an item directly through the app.
You can search for bots through the “to:” field. Or you can go to boatlist.co for a list of available bots for Facebook Messenger.
Once you found the right bots, you can start chatting or subscribe to updates. However, don’t expect bots to be perfect. The results you’ll get can be hit or miss.
4. Turn it into Snapchat
Recently, the company launched a Story feature that’s similar to Snapchat. Inside the Messenger, you can share updates of your day with your friends at once or a few people.
And just like Snapchat, the message disappears after 24 hours. To make your post more interesting, add some artsy selfie filters. Then, add your “Day” by tapping the photo icon found at the bottom of your phone’s screen to start recording.
5. Start a secret conversation
The company launched a one-to-one encrypted communications feature on mobile. The Secret Conversations uses the Signal Protocol, and it’s designed for anyone who wishes to have, well, secret conversation with another person.
To use it, you’ll have to enable the Secret Conversations feature on your device.
