Hybrid malware is the new type of cyber threat, announces BitDefender. This type of malware results from the infection with viruses of the worms on the computers affected. The study conducted by BitDefender reveals the existence of more than 40,000 of such hybrids in a sample of ten million infected files. VeriSign Requests Authority To Close Malicious Sites

VeriSign, a leading provider of SSL certificates, has passed on a petition for full authority to shut down websites with malware, Ars Technica reports.

Ponemon Survey: Security risks rise with social media use

A survey of 4,640 organizations by research firm the Ponemon Institute showed that companies and organizations are more at risk from virus and malware attacks because their employees are using Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking websites while on the job.  Security firm Websense, based in San Diego, sponsored the survey carried out by the Ponemon Institute, which is based in Traverse City, Michigan.

Google has announced that its search engine will start sniffing out malware that covertly captures online activity on Windows-based computers.
A big yellow box on top of the Google Search results page will automatically appear for malware-infected users, linking to a support page that shows instructions how to get rid of the infection.
