Nintendo released Switch, the game console that serves as a home game console and a portable entertainment device, a few days ago. But it looks like that it is Nintendo’s fastest selling console. According to a report from Nintendo America president Reggie Fils-Aime, as reported by The New York Times.

The reports reveals that Switch sold more units that Nintendo Wii, which is the most popular Nintendo console. On the other hand, the numbers are the result from a 2-day span. What about the next week? Or next month?

But, according to the tweets, there are some factors that we should definitely pay attention to in order to understand the success. Switch launched on March 3 and Nintendo Wii on November (2006). November is a month pretty close to the holiday season. So it is only fit to say that releasing a console almost in time for Christmas you have to expect to become a hit. And the newest console launched in March. So no holiday festivities and gifts under the tree. That fact can say a lot about the console.

But the most important aspect is the continuation of the hype. With Nintendo Wii the company had a constant demand of the game console. And that made it a best-seller. So Switch has to keep up and continue the great numbers for the next months

Now, the report also says that the game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” is about to become the fastest-selling launch title. It only natural because most people who are bought switch wanted to match with the game that intended to work on the hybrid console. So, no surprises here.

Nintendo has secured the American market but what about the rest of the world? For example in Japan the console sold 313,700 units the first week according to the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu (via Yuji Nakamura).

But the number wasn’t big enough in order to make Switch the most popular console, but the number is pretty good enough. And Japanese users tend to spend more money on mobile gaming and not on console games.

The upcoming months will show if Switch will become even more popular that Nintendo’s Wii. Also the next series of games might help the versatile device to become the next best thing. Stay tuned for more fun stuff from Switch!
