Sony has announced the UK arrival of Sony PlayMemories Online after launching its cloud storage service at the Consumer Electronics Show in January this year.
The Japanese electronics company says that Sony PlayMemories Online offers free 5GB cloud storage exclusively dedicated to media files such as images and HD videos, rather than support emails, documents and other files like those of Dropbox and Google Drive. After uploading and storing files, users can access files “at any time, on any device”, including PCs, Macs, or PlayStation 3 gaming consoles.
Sony also released a mobile version of PlayMemories Online on Android and iOS smartphones and tablets, but the company has yet to reveal if this will come to Windows Phone and BlackBerry devices. However, Sony promises to add support for Bravia TVs and digital photo frames with a tentative release date on Spring.
In an attempt to outperform rivals, Sony will also launch a new photo editing suite for PlayStation 3, which integrates into PlayMemories Online for storage.
