Samsung’s powerful voice assistant, Bixby, is finally available to users in the US. This was announced by the South Korean tech giant today. Samsung said the powerful voice assistant will be available Galaxy S8 and S8+ users.

Bixby is a smarter way to use a Samsung phone, enabling people to get more done with their smartphone. With this Bixby update, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ owners will be able to navigate through select phone apps, services and settings with a combination of voice commands and touch.

Bixby enables people achieve a lot on the smartphones. Users will be able to navigate through select phones apps, services and settings with a combination of voice commands and touch:

There are over 10,000 functions on our smartphones, but each day, people may use less than five percent of them. The features on your phone are only useful if you know how to find them. Our goal with Bixby is to make it easier to use our phones, creating the best possible user experience for our customers. That’s why we created Bixby – an intuitive new way to do more things with your phone,” Injong Rhee, Executive Vice President, Head of R&D, Software and Services of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics said.

The voice assistant will be first of its kind in a Samsung smartphone—and users will be able to use Bixby in so many different ways. They [users] will be able to complete tasks like taking screen shot, taking selfie, and asking the voice assistant to turn on the flashlight. Samsung said Bixby will also be able to complete some other difficult tasks, including creating photo album of all the pictures they took previous week and calling it “Vacation,” and subsequently sharing the same with their loved ones.

How to enable Bixby voice-based capabilities on the Galaxy S8 and S8+: Users in the US can enable the voice assistant by pressing the Bixby button. As soon as the software is updated, you can activate Bixby by holding the dedicated button onGalaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ phones, or by simply saying, “Hi, Bixby.”” The Bixby update, according to Samsung, is already available for update on Galaxy S8 and S8+ from AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon and U.S. Cellular.

The Wall Street Journal had earlier reported that the South Korean tech giant is very much advanced in plans to bake Bixby assistant into a voice-activated device.

Codenamed “Vega,” the new voice-enabled device has been in the works over a year. For now, Samsung has not set any release date for the device, but this might not be unconnected with the fact that Bixby does not yet support English. Also, Bixby is yet to hit the US and other major markets in the world.

The WSJ adds in its report that Vega will not be different from how Amazon’s Echo and Google Home works. The device, which will be powered by Bixby, will enable you to play music, ask questions, and control your connected home gadgets among other things it can be used for.
