Our visit to IFA Berlin brings us to the Samsung booth, where the Korean manufacturer has exposed the all new Samsung Galaxy Camera – one of the most advanced pocket cameras ever created.
In body weighting 305 grams, that takes the unmistakable shape of the compact class camera, Samsung Galaxy Camera hides hardware worthy of top tablets or smartphones, joined by an optical ensemble with enviable specifications. On the camera part, it has a CMOS sensor with a resolution of 16 MP and BSI Technology (backside-illuminated), connected to a retractable lens with 21x optical zoom and an optical image stabilization system. Image processing and advanced functions are managed by a quad-core chip at 1.4 GHz (Exynos 4), and for everything to be perfect, on the software part it is equipped with the new version of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Samsung Galaxy camera has an 4.8 inch HD Super Clear LCD screen, occupying the back and practically eliminates the need for additional physical buttons. Aside from physical button for photos, equipped with zoom ring, the icing on the cake is given by the S Voice application, a voice-controlled assistant that allows voice operation of basic functions. We can activate the zoom function, saying “zoom in / zoom out” and makes pictures remotely using the “shoot” command.
For editing pictures, the Samsung Galaxy Camera is equipped with Photo Wizzard, fitted with 35 filters and tools, and for 1080p video clips we have the Movie Wizard corespondent. Of course, for more freedom and activities that are not necessarily related to the world of cameras, we can visit the Google PlayStore store, where we can install all the Android applications that we want.
On the connectivity part, we have to choose between 3G and 4G connections, or the N wireless network. Pictures and videos stored in the 8 GB internal memory can be copied automatically to online storage, enabling Auto Backup Cloud in the presence of an active connection to Internet, through the Samsung AllShare application. Alternatively, we may choose to expand storage capacity by attaching a microSD memory card. It must be known that for 3G connections we needed micro SIM card.
Came shortly after the Nikon S800c model, Samsung Galaxy Camera joins a new class of smart cameras whose versatility can compete to any modern smartphone.
