After a report suggested that Apple is gearing up for the iPhone 5 launch on September 12, several other sites have come out with reports corroborating the rumor.
The rumor was started by iMore when it published that sources have told them of the iPhone 5 launch event which coincidentally is also the launch of three other new Apple devices.
Writing for the site, Rene Ritchie said that:
“iMore has learned that Apple is planning to debut the new iPhone at a special event on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, with the release date to follow 9 days later on Friday, September 21. This information comes from sources who have proven accurate in the past.”
He added that the “iPad Mini will be announced at the same September 12 event, as will the new iPod nano…[and] the new iPod touch”.
After the report, several other sites are reporting that they have independently confirmed this September 12 iPhone 5 launch.
AllThingsD was the first with such a confirmation with the site’s John Paczkowski writing that:
“IMore was first to report that the company has scheduled a special event for September 12, and now we’ve confirmed it as well.”
However, the publication says that they “haven’t yet confirmed the event’s focus, history suggests it will indeed be the new iPhone.” What they have confirmed is that “Apple is currently planning an event for the week of September 9th, with Wednesday being the date on which it will likely be held.”
The Loop has also come up with a brief confirmation about the event with the site’s Jim Dalrymple simply saying:
“‘iMore has learned that Apple is planning to debut the new iPhone at a special event on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, with the release date to follow 9 days later on Friday, September 21.’
Dalrymple has had a good track record at confirming this type of rumors.
Next to confirm the news is The Verge after the site reports that:
“The rumor cycle this time around for the next iPhone has been a bit unusual — multiple leaks have all depicted the exact same components — but it looks like we’ll be seeing what Apple has up its sleeves come Wednesday, September 12th. Our own sources familiar with the matter have confirmed that date, and multiple websites have similar reports as well.”
The iPhone 5 launch was first expected to be during the first week of October.
