Do you remember Oppo? It’s the company that makes the Oppo Finder which, at 6.65mm in thinness, is the world’s thinnest smartphone on sale despite what Apple would want you to believe with the iPhone 5.
The Chinese company wants another smartphone industry milestone under its belt with the smartphone maker reportedly preparing the world’s first smartphone with a full HD 1080p screen.
In an interview with Chinese site CNMO, Oppo Mobile Chief Executive Officer Chen Mingyong said that the company’s Oppo Find 5 which is in development will sport a full HD 1080p display.
More specifically, the Oppo Find 5 will have a 5-inch display which, at a 1,080 x 1,920 pixels resolution, smack the 326 pixels per inch (PPI) Retina Display of the iPhone 5 with a whopping 440.58 PPI.
We have heard of a display with these specifications before.
Back in May, LG Display launched a 5-inch LCD screen for mobile devices which features full HD resolution.
“As smartphones become increasingly valued for how well they do multimedia and with the rapid growth of LTE enabling faster large file transfers, our new 5″ Full HD LCD panel is certain to prove a significant asset to the mobile market,” LG’s Sang-Deok Yeo said in a statement at the display’s launch.
“With the world’s highest resolution smartphone display, LG Display continues to remain a step ahead in developing the most innovative in display technology products,” the LG Display CTO and executive vice president added.
Oppo may also be looking to be a step ahead of the pack. It may have to hurry though as Oppo Find 5 will be the world’s first smartphone with a full HD display only if it beats a rumored HTC smartphone with the same specifications for its screen.
Oppo already makes the Finder which measures an astounding 6.65mm at its thinnest point and 7.1mm at its thickest point because of its protruding camera lens.
The iPhone 5, which measures a uniform 7.6mm, was claimed by Apple Senior Vice President for Marketing Phil Schiller as “the world’s thinnest smartphone” during its launch.
The Oppo Finder is currently available in China and is also one tough smartphone as it was seen in a video driving nails into a piece of wood.
Meanwhile, the next Oppo smartphone, the Oppo Find 5 is rumored to have these specifications:
- Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 processor
- Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
- 2GB RAM
- 16GB / 32GB internal storage
- 12-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front camera
- 2,500 mAh battery
Oppo was coy about pricing and availability of the Oppo Find 5.
