The Japanese will be luckier than us mere mortals in other parts of the world as it is revealed that they can get a Galaxy S III with 2GB in RAM which will be offered by NTT DoCoMo.
First spotted in a PDF from the Japanese telecommunications company, and later confirmed by the Verge, it’s now certain that the NTT DoCoMo variant of the Galaxy S III will have 2GB RAM.
As can be seen from the PDF, the Galaxy S III with a code of SC-06D and will be a part of DoCoMo’s NEXT series of smartphones is similar to its international counterpart except for the memory part which lists “32GB/2GB”.
The 32GB noted is the internal storage capacity of the Galaxy S III SC-06D going to NTT DoCoMo.
As can also be seen from the specifications listed on the PDF, the Galaxy S III going to DoCoMo will not be using Samsung’s own Exynos processor but a QUALCOMM dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 CPU.
This does not come as a shock, however, as the S4 is compatible with the flavor of LTE DoCoMo has up and running.
According to DoCoMo, its Galaxy S III variant is expected to get 75Mbps downlink and 25Mbps uplink via its Xi LTE network.
As for FOMA (HSDPA/HSUPA), it’s expected that the Galaxy S III variant going to DoCoMo will get 14Mbps (HSDPA) and 5.7Mbps (HSUPA).
The phone which has recently been unveiled will be available in marble white and pebble blue.
Meanwhile, other phones included in the DoCoMo NEXT series of smartphones are:
- Sharp Aquos Phone Zeta (SH-09D) – QUALCOMM dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 CPU, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 4.7-inch Super Continuous Grain Silicon LCD with 720p resolution, same data transfer rate as Galaxy S III, available in white.
- Sony Experia GX (SO-04D) – QUALCOMM dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 CPU, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 4.6-inch TFT LCD screen with 720p resolution, same data transfer rate as Galaxy S III, available in white and black.
- Fujitsu Arrows X (F-10D) – Nvidia dual-core 1.5GHz Tegra 3 AP33 CPU, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 4.6-inch TFT LCD screen with 720p resolution, same data transfer rate as Galaxy S III, available in black, white, and blue.

- Panasonic Eluga Power (P-07D) – QUALCOMM dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 CPU, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, , 5-inch TFT LCD screen with 720p resolution, same data transfer rate as Galaxy S III, available in black.
- Sharp Aquos Phone SV (SH-10D) – QUALCOMM dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 CPU, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, 4.5-inch Continuous Grain Silicon LCD with 720p resolution, same data transfer rate as Galaxy S III, available in orange, white and black.
The Galaxy S III, and all of the phones in NTT DoCoMo’s NEXT series, will be powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest flavor of Android to come out.
Meanwhile, in a noteworthy similarity, the just-announced LG Optimus LTE II also has 2GB in internal memory. This may mean that since the Galaxy S III and the new LG flagship are getting 2GB in memory, we might soon see flagships – and later lower tier phones – get more than 1GB in memory as standard.
