Nokia may be releasing the Nokia PureView 808 in the U.S. tomorrow as hinted by the Finnish phone manufacturer on its U.S. Facebook Page.
Yesterday, Nokia posted a map of Hawaii with big, bold letters saying “6.18.12” which will be the date tomorrow.
In the image, there appeared to be Nokia Maps navigation keys overlaid. This has prompted people to speculate that tomorrow will be the launch of the Nokia Maps service which has been recently rumored to be replacing Bing Maps on Windows Phone 8.
If indeed Nokia Maps will be launched tomorrow, June is shaping up to be the “Battle Of The Maps Services Month” as Apple has also just recently announced that iOS 6 brings an Apple mapping service which will supplant the use of Google Maps on its iOS devices.
The Apple mapping service was previously rumored to be coming before it was formally announced by Apple at its recently-held Worldwide Developers Conference.
Meanwhile, after getting people talking about the possibility of the launch of a Nokia Maps service, the U.S. Facebook Page of the Finnish handsets maker posted another image with the same markings of “6.18.12” like the earlier image.
This time, the image was that of the Roland TR-808. The machine is a drum machine released by Roland back in early 1980. It may be no coincidence that Nokia has posted an image of a device named “808”.
After this image was posted by Nokia, All Things Digital reported that unnamed sources have confided in them that Nokia will indeed be announcing when the Nokia PureView 808 will be available in the U.S.
The Nokia PureView 808 has been a constant topic about Nokia since it unveiled the phone with the 41-megapixel camera sensor in the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last January.
On a side note, other various Nokia PureView phones have been said to be in development and will soon be launched as we reported last month on so this event could be about other Nokia PureView phones.
However, the third image posted by the Nokia U.S. Facebook Page seems to erase thoughts like that as it brings back the “808” string of thought.
The Nokia US Facebook Page posted a picture of part of an album cover by the band “808 State” so there seems to be no doubt now that Nokia will indeed be releasing – or announcing the release date – of the Nokia PureView 808 in the U.S. tomorrow.
