Nokia quickly debunked critics who said the company’s Lumia 920 flagship smartphone will find it difficult to compete against Android and iOS devices and claimed that its PureView camera technology will lure users away from rival smartphones.
At the Qualcomm IQ event in Berlin on Tuesday, Jo Harlow, Executive Vice President of Nokia, asserted in her keynote that the Lumia 920 is the best smartphone the Finnish phone maker has ever built.
“Our Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8 flagship is the most innovative smartphone in the world. The device is the perfect example of Nokia’s iconic Lumia design, combined with the incentive of PureView camera technology,” she said.
“Windows Phone 8 and the Lumia 920 were built side by side. We’re working with Microsoft to expand Windows Phone.”
PureView allows Nokia users to capture the best images on any smartphone in the market today, Harlow added.
The company said its camera technology allows the Lumia 920 to deliver photos with 5 to 10 times more light per shot compared to the competition and touts unequaled video stabilization through its optical image stabilization (OIS) feature.
Critics poured hearts out after learning the fake video Nokia played to allegedly show off the Lumia 920 PureView camera technology.
At the event in Berlin, Harlow further apologized, “You may have heard about a video that simulated the PureView technology’s effect.”
“We’re still in the process of understanding how it happened. It was poor judgement not to put a disclaimer saying it was a simulation. But it should not distract from the point, the Lumia 920 does take the best images on any smartphone.”
The Lumia 920 was unveiled at a New York event on September 5.
