Twitter this year delivered the world’s best moments and events that previously were out of reach to some parts of the globe. The micro-blogging site saw users tweet from another planet and the ocean’s deepest point, deliver over-the-top views of Hurricane Sandy, and follow each presidential candidate in the days leading to the U.S. November elections.
Millions of tweets shared similar moments to the world and were accessible amid different conditions.
The largest sporting events had fans passionately tweeting their way during game time. Commentators, observers and experts tweeted their views, debates and reactions end-to-end on campaigns, assemblies, televised debates and Election Day itself. More than a million music fans huddled together on Twitter throughout the MTV Video Music Awards to talk about live performances and oppose or approve to winners and losers of the night.
Twitter launched a separate page for users to dig into, see the memorable moments, and follow people who made Twitter 2012 unparalleled. It assured mobile device owners of a similar user experience with a dedicated mobile web browser page for smartphones and tablets.
Twitter highlighted the top two tweets of the year – the tweets that generated the most retweets on the social networking platform – and mentioned a few other tweets that drew the world’s attention.
