Microsoft to Sell Ciao

Microsoft is looking to sell the European comparison shopping site Ciao a report from Merger Market reveals.

Microsoft to Sell Ciao 300x199 Microsoft to Sell CiaoCiting “a source familiar with the process”, the publication says that Ciao will likely fetch a price lower than $100 million when it is sold.

Greenfield Online, Ciao’s parent company, was acquired by Microsoft in 2008 in the Redmond, Washington-based company’s efforts to improve its Bing search engine. Greenfield Online was bought by Microsoft for $486 million in that 2008 deal.

Ciao operates in seven European countries namely France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and the U.K.

Greenfield’s survey division was eventually sold by the Windows OS maker to ZM Capital for an unknown amount.

According to the Merger Market report, possible buyers are UK’s Jamplant-owned Kelkoo, E.W. Scripps’ Shopzilla, and Experian’s PriceGrabber.com.

The report from Merger Market is yet to be verified, however, with Microsoft not commenting on inquiries sent to it by various media outlets.
