Earlier this week, Microsoft began to release the update during its Surface event. But Microsoft has paused the distribution of its Windows 10 October 2018 Update.
When Windows 10 users downloaded the latest Windows 10, they complained that their documents were deleted. You will find plenty of complaints about the same problem on Microsoft’s support site and other forums. Some of these users even complained that their entire profiles were wiped out. Some experts did release a temporary solution. However, no one could understand why it is happening.
The company introduced the latest version of its operating system. It has not pushed the update yet. However, those who downloaded and installed the OS refresh reported the said error.
Microsoft is currently investigating what is going on here. It is also trying to determine how widespread it is. That said, expect that the company will delay pushing the update to its users until it knows the cause of its issue.
Now, if you have downloaded the update yet, it is best not to install it.
“We have paused the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809)* for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users missing some files after updating.” – Microsoft
Affected users must contact the company directly. Furthermore, Windows 10 users complained about not being able to connect to the Internet after they updated their devices. They also stated some PCs blocked the update because of incompatibilities.
The total number of users affected by this issue is unknown. Even if the number is just small, it is still perplexing why Microsoft failed to identify the issue during its vast testing.
Microsoft accumulated 5 million testers using its Insider program. These Insiders could be anyone. He could be your barista or she could be your boss. Millions of people signed up to test the latest operating system and help Microsoft in improving its operating system.
But Microsoft was not always like this. When it developed Windows 7 and 8, it did so in relative secrecy. In fact, it punished individuals who leaked the OS. The company even concealed the features for months.
However, things changed. The company had a cultural shift and introduced a Windows Insider program. It seemed succeeding. Unfortunately, Microsoft struggled to provide quality Windows updates.
In April, it also delayed the release of its Windows 10 April update because of BSOD. However, those issues were identified before regular consumers could reach it. The company did plan to push its latest October update next Tuesday. With the recent event, however, it is likely that it is going to delay it while it continues to investigate the issue.
How long the pause will be is not clear yet. However, Microsoft promised to provide an update when it has fixed the issue or when the update is ready without the bugs. Currently, the company is advising everyone not to download the update. They must wait until the next update. If you have downloaded and installed it but lost files, make sure to call the company’s customer support team directly.
