Qualcomm has announced that LG is currently in the process of producing a smartphone powered by its powerful quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor.
The company has confirmed that production has started on the still unnamed device which will hit the South Korean market sometime next month.
After its South Korean debut, the LG Snapdragon S4 Pro smartphone will make its way to international markets.
In a statement, Qualcomm said:
“Qualcomm will supply the latest Snapdragon™ S4 Pro platform to LG, enabling LG’s new quad-core smartphone, which is currently in production with anticipated commercial availability in Korea in September and global rollout to follow. This smartphone will be the newest commercial and global device to offer a quad core CPU Snapdragon S4 processor along with 3G/LTE multi-mode capabilities, delivering a superior mobile experience for voice, web browsing, games, user interfaces and other graphics applications.”
Apart from that information, Qualcomm kept mum on anything else saying it will be LG that will make an official announcement about the device.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro packs with it a powerful Adreno 320 graphics processing unit that will support massive resolutions for screens.
This means that games can be played in HD theoretically with no trouble at all as the quad-core processor can handle all the processing tasks and the GPU can display great graphics on HD screens.
The processing power also extends not only to apps like games but to photography. With the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro, imaging addicts are expected to delight as the new processor enables a device powered by it to take great photos.
Another key feature of the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro is that it makes any smartphone it powers a truly global phone.
It can run on networks around the globe whether they be on a CDMA or GSM setup. The Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro is also 4G.
The new chipset is also expected to be more powerful than current quad-core options available in the market today.
In recent benchmarks, the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro got a score of nearly 8000 in the Quadrant benchmark. For comparison, current top devices are at about a 5000 score.
For the AnTuTu benchmark, the new Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core CPU nearly got a 14,000 score. By comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S III scores at about 12,000.
The new LG Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro smartphone comes after the LG Optimus 4X HD, a smartphone powered by the quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, went available for pre-order recently.
