LG is launching smartphone after smartphone as the South Korean company has also taken the wraps of its newest L line flagship, the LG Optimus L9.
The new phone will be the top smartphone for LG in their L line of smartphones which now has the Optimus L3, Optimus L5 and Optimus L7.
The LG Optimus L9 unveiling also comes shortly after LG unveiled its quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro-equipped Optimus G superphone.
LG’s L smartphones are characterized by the company as the combination of style and performance.
The new Optimus L9 continues the same minimalist design LG has chosen for the range of smartphones in a body that measures 131.9 x 68.2 x 9.1mm and weighs 125 grams.
Powered by Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich straight out of the box, the Optimus L9 is equipped with a 4.7-inch IPS LCD screen. No details have been shared by LG about the resolution of this screen.
The new smartphone comes packed with a dual-core 1GHz processor and 1GB of RAM.
“The Optimus L9 is a great smartphone that appeals to every consumer,” said LG’s Dr. Jongseok Park.
“LG will continue to offer differentiated value through the Optimus L9 and strengthen our position in the smartphone market,” the LG Mobile Communications President and CEO added.
Internal memory for the Optimus L9 is just 4GB but this can be complemented by up to 32GB in external memory through the smartphone’s microSD card slot.
Imaging comes courtesy of two cameras. The rear unit for the smartphone is a 5-megapixel unit which has a built-in LED flash, autofocus and geo-tagging. The front camera is a VGA unit.
Packed inside that svelte chassis is a big 2,150 mAh SiO+ battery which should provide enough juice to power the L9 for your needs.
One of the most memorable features of the Optimus L9, however, isn’t its hardware but the built-in translator feature LG included with the device.
According to LG:
“The QTranslator function instantly translates not only words, but also entire sentences and phrases with a simple scan from nearly 44 foreign languages to 64 user languages. Using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, it recognizes letters upon scanning with the camera and utilizes electronic dictionary or online translation engine to translate words, sentences or phrases.”
The LG Optimus L9 also features My Style Keypad which adjusts depending on what hand you’re using to type and the QMemo feature which allows users to capture, memo and share their ideas using handwriting.
No word yet on when the Optimus L9 will be up in store shelves and for what price it can be had.
