LG will not be left behind the full HD smartphone race as one of its smartphones in development has been leaked in benchmark results that reveal a 1080p display.
Leaked on the GLBenchmark site, the smartphone is codenamed the LG F240K and rocks a screen with an indicated resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels or full HD.
The full HD smartphone is also equipped with a 1.5 GHz processor which, according to the data on the GLBenchmark site, looks like a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor.
It also comes with an Adreno 320 graphics processing unit and has completed the test with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.
Embedded at the end is a sample page from the GLBenchmark results for the LG F240K with the display resolution highlighted.
While it is no surprise that LG is developing a full HD smartphone, this is one of the first solid indications that such a phone currently exists inside LG’s labs.
However, it’s no surprise that a phone like this is being developed by LG as its LG Display unit was the first to launch a 5-inch full HD 1080p LCD screen way back in May.
“As smartphones become increasingly valued for how well they do multimedia and with the rapid growth of LTE enabling faster large file transfers, our new 5-inch Full HD LCD panel is certain to prove a significant asset to the mobile market,” LG’s Sang-Deok Yeo said then in a statement.
That screen has a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch (ppi). For perspective, the Retina Display Apple boasts about in the iPhone 5 has “only” 326 ppi. That makes this screen have way better pixel density that Apple’s Retina Display.
This smartphone screen makes use of LG’s Advanced High-Performance In-Plane Switching technology.
However, while LG Display was the first to showcase a full HD LCD display, HTC has beaten LG to the punch as it already launched the HTC J Butterfly in Japan also known as the Verizon Droid DNA and the HTC Deluxe for international markets.
This HTC smartphone is equipped with a 5-inch 1080p screen which may be the same as the LG Display or may be units from Sharp or Japan Display which have also announced full HD smartphone displays.
The new information also comes as Lenovo has also been reported just recently to be developing a full HD smartphone with dual SIM slots.
The Oppo Find 5, another full HD smartphone with a 5-inch 1080p screen, is already in production.
We may see this full HD smartphone debuted by LG at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on January next year.
