Amazon has released its own social gaming platform for its massively popular Kindle Fire tablet.
Much like the Apple Game Center, Amazon GameCircle monitors a player’s score on similar game titles and highlights leaderboards and virtual feats. The gaming platform also shows off a cloud-based sync feature for saving games.
Amazon elaborates, “GameCircle will make achievements, leaderboards and sync APIs accessible, simple and quick for you to integrate, and will give gamers a more seamless and entertaining in-game experience.”
The world’s largest online retailer adds that Temple Run, the Android and iOS top seller app, will be one of the initial games to capitalize on the new social gaming features in GameCircle.
“The new service is a great way to keep our fans engaged by offering them more opportunities to play the game, and an intuitive platform to connect with new players,” said Keith Shepherd, co-founder of game developer Imangi Studios.
Doodle Jump, Rule the Kingdom, and Tap Zoo are three of the app titles that will also arrive on Amazon’s GameCircle.
The launch of GameCircle apparently adds weight to rumors that the company is currently in the works with an upcoming Amazon smartphone. With the successful launch of the Kindle Fire during last year’s holiday season, Amazon will likely release the alleged handset by Christmas.
