The iPad Pro 10.5 replaces its 9.7-inch model, which was released a year ago. These two iPad options look similar. But the latest model comes with 9.8 inches x 6.8 inches. It’s slightly larger than the last model. It’s also an ounce heavier than the 9.7 model.
The overall design is virtually untouched, although the Touch ID button has been shifted a bit and moved the microphone to the top edge. Apple added MP to the front-facing camera. But the extra isn’t significant.
The Display – ProMotion
Its Retina screen provides 264 PPI, which is the same depth resolution as the old version. However, it offers 2224 x 1668 resolution. Apart from being bigger, the screen is brighter and less reflective. It means you can easily use it in the outdoors.
The True Tone technology is back on this iPad. It changes the color of the display. The alterations depend on the lighting conditions of the room. It works, and you wouldn’t want to disable it once you’ve started using it.
Although it’s almost the same, the latest iPad’s refresh rates are on an in-app basis. That means, it refreshes based on the app’s needs. This feature is known as the ProMotion. That moment-to-moment refresh allows the display to look good. It also moves smoothly. But you’ll never notice that it’s adjusting.
With 120Hz refresh rates, scrolling through your favorite web pages feel more fluid than before. This ProMotion technology is also useful when watching movies as the videos look better as the display adjusts based on the frame rate of the video or content.
When you start using this display, you can appreciate how good it is and realize that Apple’s other tablets feel inferior.
The smooth response of this model to every task is brought by the latest mobile CPU — A10FX Fusion and 64-bit architecture. Plus, it comes with 4GB RAM. It has beaten Microsoft’s Pro 4 during single and multi-core tests. The A10X Fusion allows fluid gaming and offers professional level photo editing results.
The chip is 30 percent faster than the A9X. However, when you start using it, it feels like it has been provided a serious boost in performance as it makes every task feel effortless. If you play some intense games, you won’t witness an annoying lag. It’s also the same if you edit a 4K video. There’s no single stutter. That’s quite impressive.
There are three storage options to choose from 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB.
This model supports Apple Pencil. If you’re tablet drawing, you’ll appreciate the ProMotion more as it refreshes the screen up to 120 Hz. It also reduces lag time. The drawing speed of this new iPad is perfect as it quickly recognizes pressure, angle, and tilt. You don’t necessarily need an Apple Pencil if you’re not planning to use this iPad for digital art apps or taking down notes the old-fashioned way.
This latest iPad doesn’t have a way for you to attach the pencil to it physically. However, the company released a case that comes with a stylus-shaped pocket. It can help in keeping it safe.
The camera quality isn’t as great as in the iPhone. However, it’s an ideal tool for business. For example, if you wish to capture an object and manipulate it, you could easily do it as the camera captures color-accurate pictures and distortion-free video. In fact, you can capture up to 4K at 30 fps.
It comes with a 12MP rear camera that guarantees you can snap stunning shots. What’s more is that it reduces blur. Thanks to its optical image stabilization feature. It can shoot 4K quality and slow-motion. Plus, it has the Live Photo mode.
The FaceTime HD camera is 7MP that improves performance when video calling. Apart from its high resolution, it also utilizes extensive color capture. Plus the Retina Flash allows low-light shots.
The presence of Quad LED flash is great for selfies and gives you a more natural look. The smart LEDs can match the flash’s color to the lighting of the surrounding. The True Tone flash comes in handy when you scan documents in a very low light condition.
Speaker for Movies and Games
This year’s iPad offers four-speaker audio. That said, you can hear loud sound when you’re watching movies or playing games. It still comes with a 3.5mm jack but I’d suggest using AirPods. The mini boom boxes can easily recognize whether the iPad is in portrait or landscape mode. From there, it changes the audio accordingly.
The design team of the company did a great job in squeezing such a powerful quality sound into the 6.9 mm thin shell.
Smart Connector and the Keyboard
iPad Pro 10.5 comes with a smart connector, where you can connect a Smart keyboard. But the keyboard isn’t included in the package. You need to purchase it separately at $159. What’s great about this keyboard is that the keys are more spread out giving you a sense of a full-sized keyboard. It works on iPad Pro 10.5 and iPad Pro 0.7.
The keyboard doesn’t have function keys, no controls for volume and brightness. However, you can purchase a Logitech keyboard that works well with iPad Pro 10.5. It addresses some of the issues you find on Apple’s Smart keyboard.
It can run up to 10 hours. But the mileage depends on the tasks on any given day.
Apple added second-generation Touch ID technology. It enables you to unlock the device faster than it was before.
Unfortunately, it’s not water-resistant. So, never use it when taking a long bath.
There’s no doubt that iPad Pro 10.5 is the best tablet of Apple. But all those features that we’ve mentioned come at a hefty price. The 64GB version starts from $619. If you wish to obtain the 512GB version with cellular connection, the price can go up to $1,109. Plus, you need to pay more if you wish to get the keyboard case and the Apple Pencil.
