Plans to make Instagram more accessible to shoppers are well underway. Only a couple of weeks ago, the ephemeral photo-sharing app launched @shop to connect both buyers and sellers together. The latest addition to the Instagram ecommerce plan is a new feature called “Autofill.”
Though, Autofill is still being tested according to reliable reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong, the feature if eventually launched is capable of making the process of shopping on the platform easier.
Autofill will come in very handy when it comes to filling your contact info and address when shopping on the platform. It solves the problem of trying to enter your contact details and addresses every time there is a need for it.
Features like this always lead to worries about the privacy and safety of such data; but Jane adds that you will be able to delete the autofill information provided at any time you feel like. This is quite encouraging as it enables you to wipe previously entered information on the platform.
Autofill, like previous features Jane has called, have all been almost exactly has tweeted by her—and hopefully this one won’t be any different.
A couple of weeks ago, Instagram rolled out @shop—and according to Instagram, the feature was added to celebrate small businesses and creators behind them. The shopping account will enable shoppers access different categories of shopping including fashion, beauty, home décor, and more.
Shoppers will be able to shop from the aforementioned categories across the world. To make shopping easy for everyone, tags will be used, which can be tapped to dive in. You can start by following @shop to discover and shop from aforementioned categories around the world.
Before @shop was launched, Instagram had announced a new payment feature called Checkout, which allows you to admire a product you love, and pay for it without visiting the brand’s website. All your shopping can now be done within the app without necessarily being redirected to the web page of the seller/brand.
“Checkout on Instagram” button will pop up on the product page when you tap to view a product from a brand’s shopping post. Tap the button to select from various options available, then proceed to payment without exiting the Instagram app. Information that will be required to complete the process include, your name, email, billing information and shipping address—but this will only be the first time when you check out.
Just like the rumored Autofill, the information entered the first time will then be saved, which means you will not be required to enter it every time you want to check out on the Instagram app. Shipment notifications and delivery will be made available right within the Instagram app, so you can continue to keep track of all your transactions.
