Instagram Testing School Stories

TechCrunch reported that Instagram is currently testing School Stories that only students from certain schools could use or see. To ensure that it would not turn into bullying cesspools, the code has a warning that any School Stories will be reviewed manually to ensure the safety of the community.

School Stories could help in creating a fun environment for kids when sharing with their peers. However, they could still worsen some teen culture issues.

Jane Manchun Wong first spotted the code for School Stories. It detailed some of its features. Unfortunately, the company did not comment on it yet.

Stories that are specific to certain schools might be similar to other school-based programs that IG tested.

Last summer, it experimented on a groups feature for students. It was intended for college students that were currently enrolled.

In here, users who were invited to a school’s group on the said social media platform could view the member’s public Stories. They could send a direct message from the community lists.

The concept follows the beginnings of Facebook, Instagram’s parent company, that started as a social networking platform exclusive for college students. The service was designed for students enrolled in a university, even alumni were not included.

Snapchat also tested on school stories in 2015. But it was just short-lived. The feature was called Our Campus Story. For some students who got to use it stated that they had fun using it but it did not last long.

Instagram has published several features since its founders left the company. In the past years, we saw a lot of converging features on Facebook and Instagram that make them similar. For instance, they both have Stories feature.

It has come a long way, from being an exclusive image-sharing platform to making it useful for users and businesses. Last month, the company gave us more updates that could further assist marketers in accomplishing their goals.

For example, Instagram now allows you to upload longer Story. That is, you can now upload a video that is more than 15 seconds. However, a minute long video will be split into 15-second sections.

It also rolled out quick replies for DMs. This feature lets you save your replies so you do not have to repeat yourself. It is a vital tool for social media marketers. In here, you can save those generic responses that you can utilize frequently for your followers. But you can easily customize them.

Marketers receive often asked questions. They also have the same interactions every time. With this feature, they can easily save their response, pull it up, customize it as needed and send it again.

Instagram has done significant updates and changes to the app since its first launched. It has evolved slowly with a stream of updates.

The School Story might not be the most anticipated updates. However, among the latest updates, it has released, the most useful is the saved replies feature.

What do you think of the School Story? Should Instagram roll it out?
