Instagram is rumored to be working on a video calling feature
Could Instagram be working on a video calling feature? According to highly reliable blogger WABetaInfo, Instagram is working on a video calling feature that could change the direction of how the ephemeral picture sharing app works.
The rumored feature will come with the possibility to enable you make video calls to other users of the app. The Facebook subsidiary is said to be working on the feature. According to WABetaInfo, the video calling functionality will be represented by a new icon that will appear in the navigation bar in the chat, same way it happens it is in WhatsApp.
Upon opening an active chat with another user, the video calling feature becomes accessible. What that means is that you will be able to make video call as long as the other party on the other end has accepted the request to chat, otherwise the icon won’t appear. Once you tap on the icon, the video call will immediately start.
It’s still early days, and nothing much has been disclosed at this stage. As a matter of fact, the last update I did didn’t show any sign of the feature, which shows that the video calling feature is still in its developmental stage. However, WABetaInfo adds that the functionality will be enabled next month, will be available to both iOS and Android users.
Stories is Instagram’s most popular feature at the moment; and without a doubt, the ephemeral picture sharing app wants to keep it so. The Facebook subsidiary recently rolled out more fun ways to express yourself by adding expressive GIF stickers to Stories.
You can now add expressive GIF stickers to any photo or video in your story. A new option has now been added to Stories to allow you add GIFs to your photos and videos in your stories.
Simply tap to open a library where you will find hundreds of thousands of moving stickers powered by none other than GIPHY. Need help finding the right GIF? You can also browse trending GIFs on GIPHY or search its extensive collection to find the sticker to perfectly describe that moment that words cannot best describe. You can find loads of GIFs including, bouncing letters, and twirling hearts to dancing cats and pizza in space. These animated stickers, according to Instagram, will help you make any video or photo funny or interesting.
Instagram also announced that it will soon roll out the ability to upload videos and photos in their original size to your story:
“In the coming weeks, we’re also rolling out the ability to upload photos and videos of any size to your story — so you never have to lose part of a photo or cut a friend out of a group video. When you upload a photo or video, pinch to share it in its original dimensions, whether it’s square, portrait or landscape. Any extra room will be filled with a custom color gradient that matches what you’ve shared,”
