Google plus now offers vanity URLs to selected users, a feature that has already been used by Twitter and Facebook for quite some time now.
This means that you can now customize your Google plus URL so that it has your name on it, making it more personalized and making your social network page be even more about you than it already is.
Google Plus vanity URLs makes it easier to locate people on the social networking site. You don’t have to search for them; they can give you their customized URL and get connected.
According to Saurabh Sharma, a project manager for Google,
“Whether you’re a clothing brand showing off your latest fashions (Google.com/+hugoboss), an athlete talking about the game (Google.com/+davidbeckham), or an actor recalling a favorite role (Google.com/+hughjackman), your Google Plus profile helps you connect with the people who share your interests.”
Only a few verified accounts will be given custom URLs for now. Over time, more individuals and brands will benefit from this feature.
Google once said that Google Plus will become the backbone of the company. This moves seems to support that plan, especially since these URLS all start with Google.com/+, which means that each Google plus profile URL will be suitably depicted as being a Google brand.
